RCN Telecommunications. (Washington, DC Market) — Senior Engineering Manager, 5/1999 to 1/2011

Managed all phases of Engineering, Construction and OTN Operations for a 2,200 mile HFC Network serving over 50,000 residential and Small Business Customers as well as over 100 Government, University and Business Enterprise Customers.

Managed the Engineering, Design Build-out for nine Distribution Hub Sites, Including Heating/AC, Fire Suppression, UPS Power Systems, DC Power Plant, Rack installation and Electronics Installation

Led the successful launch of the DC Market Commercial Metro Ethernet Business. Provided Customer Sales Support and Full life-cycle project management.

Managed the Residential “Triple Play” Installation Department. Inherited the lowest ranked Market and improved the metrics to achieve an improvement to the number two ranked Market in eight months. Focused the entire staff on Customer Service with all decision making based on “what does the customer expect and what can I do to meet their expectations”.

BURNUP AND SIMS CONSTRUCTION (Lithonia GA) — Project Manager, 10/1977 to 6/1990

Provided Turnkey C.A.T.V. Construction Management. Served as liaison with Customers coordinating project and launch schedules, providing weekly progress reports and resolving any Design, Permitting, or Billing issues. Oversaw in-house and contractor construction crews. Organized daily schedules. Monitored project progress and provided reports to Customers and Corporate Supervisors. Projects included Houston TX, Dallas TX, Portland OR Suburbs, and Baltimore MD. Over 5,000 miles of plant constructed.

 

 

Enterprise Project Highlights

Engineered and implemented a seven Node scalable Ethernet ring to connect four Northern Virginia, three Washington DC and one Maryland site as well as connecting to Equinox (VA). The project included Type 1 fiber, Type 2 fiber (negotiated contract) and DWDM segments.  Worked closely with Sales, Corporate Engineering, Finance (provided estimates for material, labor, electronics and contract obligations for ROI analysis) and Customer to get project approval. Coordinated closely with the Customer by providing technical drawings and specifications for building access and lateral and riser construction. Also, coordinated the turn-up and testing of eight sites simultaneously which required organizing additional resources from multiple markets. The project was completed on- time and in budget.

Engineered and implemented diverse circuits connecting George Washington University, Georgetown University, American University and Catholic University (I2). Worked directly with customer POCs to develop building access and lateral and riser construction plans for approval. Developed detailed schedules with input from customers, vendors and internal resources. Provided detailed progress reports along with verbal updates. Provided accrual reports to Finance. The project was completed on-time and in budget

Worked closely with Enterprise Sales, Georgetown University Administration and Technical Personnel to tailor a plan that met technical and financial targets to bring video services to over 16 buildings housing 2,000 dorm rooms. Served as the customer POC successfully resolved access schedules, construction related complaints and channel lineup changes. The project was successfully completed on-time and in budget.
